I met Paul and Jennifer for their Charleston engagement photos on the absolute most perfect night! We had incredible golden hour lighting! I only hope that each and every couple I photograph can get this type of evening for their engagement session! You can scroll down to the bottom of this post to get some insight on how we achieved this gorgeous result!
The beginning of their romance started with a chance meeting out with friends in San Diego one weekend. They hit it off instantly and the whirlwind began! I met Jennifer last year at Jesse and Meredith's wedding. Paul was there too, but they were not yet engaged. Fast forward to the holidays this past year and Paul was planning the perfect proposal with their entire family in attendance! I couldn't be happier for this sweet couple! I can't wait for their wedding at the Dunes Club next year!
Several things made this engagement session what it was. We had a gorgeous couple and we had gorgeous golden hour lighting! This lighting happens in the 1-2 hours before sunset. The sun gets low enough that the sky starts to show some amazing warmth. That color warms the skin and brings out that amazing glow.
In addition, Jennifer had impeccable outfit selection. She chose a soft, muted blush dress that complimented her skin tone. She also chose a nice dark blazer for Paul. Their attire was dressy and elegant, which made this occasion special. Both the dress and blazer were solid colors. Because their were no prints, there was nothing to draw the eye away from them as a couple. The eye is drawn to the emotion you see in their expressions toward one another. The colors they chose in their outfits also work well with their surroundings here in downtown Charleston. Charleston is an outdoor town known for it's amazing sunsets and pastel colored architecture. Pastels and neutral colors always work well here.
This session was also shot on Fuji 400 film using a Contax 645 medium format camera. This is truly the luxury set up for portrait photography. You cannot beat this combo for it's color profile and amazing creaminess.
